The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 71% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Turkey represented the main exporter of industrial machinery for the preparation of meat or poultry in MENA, with the volume of exports reaching X units, which was near 65% of total exports in 2022. Morocco (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by the United Arab Emirates (X units) and Iran (X units). All these countries together took near 27% share of total exports. The following exporters - Egypt (X units) and Israel (X units) - together made up 5.7% of total exports.

Moreover, Egypt emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +53.0% from 2012-2022. Morocco (+8 p.p.), Turkey (+6.7 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+6.6 p.p.), Iran (+5 p.p.) and Egypt (+3.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest meat-preparation industrial machinery supplier in MENA, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Morocco ($X), with a 5.4% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 3.7% share.

In Turkey, meat-preparation industrial machinery exports increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Morocco (+12.2% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+18.9% per year).

The export price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -7.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 62%. In 2022, the amount of industrial machinery for the preparation of meat or poultry imported in MENA skyrocketed to X units, jumping by 35% compared with 2021 figures. In general, imports recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 84%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, meat-preparation industrial machinery imports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +57.1% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Iraq represented the key importer of industrial machinery for the preparation of meat or poultry in MENA, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was near 31% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Israel (X units), Kuwait (X units), Turkey (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units), Egypt (X units) and Algeria (X units), together making up a 52% share of total imports.

Iraq was also the fastest-growing in terms of the industrial machinery for the preparation of meat or poultry imports, with a CAGR of +25.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+18.1%), Israel (+8.3%), Kuwait (+7.6%) and Egypt (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Turkey (-3.6%) and Algeria (-6.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Iraq (+25 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+4.7 p.p.) and Israel (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Egypt, Algeria and Turkey saw its share reduced by -3.3%, -13.1% and -16.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest meat-preparation industrial machinery importing markets in MENA were Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Israel ($X), with a combined 42% share of total imports. Algeria, Iraq, Egypt and Kuwait lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.

Iraq, with a CAGR of +21.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2022, with a decrease of -20% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 86%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Algeria ($X per unit), while Kuwait ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
