Interchangeable Tool Production in MENA

In value terms, interchangeable tool production declined to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of interchangeable tools for hand tools increased by 43% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +71.5% against 2018 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, interchangeable tool exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +31.9% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Turkey dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 79% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), comprising a 9.1% share of total exports. Oman (X tons), Israel (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to interchangeable tool exports from Turkey stood at +18.7%. At the same time, Oman (+32.0%), Morocco (+15.7%) and the United Arab Emirates (+5.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +32.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Israel (-16.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+44 p.p.) and Oman (+3.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-2.9 p.p.) and Israel (-34.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest interchangeable tool supplying countries in MENA were Israel ($X), Turkey ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), together accounting for 92% of total exports. These countries were followed by Morocco and Oman, which together accounted for a further 3.1%.

Among the main exporting countries, Morocco, with a CAGR of +22.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -9.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+27.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Interchangeable Tool Imports

Imports in MENA

In 2021, approx. X tons of interchangeable tools for hand tools were imported in MENA; growing by 13% compared with the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, interchangeable tool imports totaled $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 17%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Saudi Arabia (X tons), distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Iran (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Iraq (X tons) represented the largest importers of interchangeable tools for hand tools, together mixing up 78% of total imports. Algeria (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Kuwait (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Israel (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Israel (with a CAGR of +196.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest interchangeable tool importing markets in MENA were Turkey ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a combined 61% share of total imports. Kuwait, Israel, Iran, Iraq, Morocco, Oman, Algeria and Qatar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.

Among the main importing countries, Kuwait, with a CAGR of +10.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 9.3%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
