In 2021, the MENA's inulin market was finally on the rise to reach $X after three years of decline. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

After two years of growth, shipments abroad of inulin decreased by -90.9% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports faced a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 3,587%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, inulin exports declined markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 570% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Saudi Arabia represented the largest exporter of inulin in MENA, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near 72% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X kg) and Turkey (X kg), together comprising a 28% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to inulin exports from Saudi Arabia stood at -16.9%. Turkey (-2.1%) and the United Arab Emirates (-13.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia increased by +9.7, +5.1 and +4.5 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the largest inulin supplier in MENA, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with an 8.5% share of total exports.
In Saudi Arabia, inulin exports contracted by an average annual rate of -8.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (-4.3% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-16.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 126% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 172% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+10.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Inulin Imports
Imports in MENA
In 2021, overseas purchases of inulin increased by 8.1% to X tons, rising for the fifth year in a row after two years of decline. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +55.7% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 15%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, inulin imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +100.5% against 2015 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the two major importers of inulin, namely Israel and Turkey, represented more than two-thirds of total import.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +8.7%).
In value terms, the largest inulin importing markets in MENA were Israel ($X) and Turkey ($X).
Turkey, with a CAGR of +9.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 21% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Israel amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+0.7%).
