Turkey prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 95% of total exports in 2021. The following exporters - Tunisia (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) - each amounted to a 4% share of total exports.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the iron or steel flexible tubing exports, with a CAGR of +15.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Tunisia (+7.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-3.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey increased by +13 percentage points.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest metal flexible tubing supplier in MENA, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tunisia ($X), with a 2.7% share of total exports.

In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+7.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in MENA

In 2021, supplies from abroad of iron or steel flexible tubing was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, imports enjoyed a modest increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 57% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Saudi Arabia represented the major importer of iron or steel flexible tubing in MENA, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. 43% of total imports in 2021. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Turkey (X tons) and Qatar (X tons). All these countries together took near 35% share of total imports. Iraq (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Israel (X tons), Iran (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Saudi Arabia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the iron or steel flexible tubing imports, with a CAGR of +10.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Israel, Egypt, Qatar and Iran experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Turkey (-1.3%), Morocco (-3.6%), Iraq (-5.2%) and Algeria (-8.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Saudi Arabia (+22 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Turkey (-2.7 p.p.), Iraq (-3.5 p.p.) and Algeria (-4.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest metal flexible tubing importing markets in MENA were Saudi Arabia ($X), Turkey ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a combined 74% share of total imports.

Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +15.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Import price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, metal flexible tubing import price increased by +8.3% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 81% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
