Jam, jelly, puree and paste exports skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, growing by 18% against the year before. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 20% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, jam, jelly, puree and paste exports rose markedly to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Turkey represented the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which accounted for 61% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Iran (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), together mixing up a 30% share of total exports. The following exporters - Lebanon (X tons) and Iraq (X tons) - together made up 5.8% of total exports.

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Lebanon (+16.7%), the United Arab Emirates (+15.7%), Iran (+12.3%) and Iraq (+7.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lebanon emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +16.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Syrian Arab Republic (-4.2%) and Egypt (-6.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey and Lebanon increased by +6.5, +3.8, +3.1 and +2.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest jam, jelly, puree and paste supplier in MENA, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a 5% share of total exports. It was followed by Lebanon, with a 4.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey totaled +2.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Egypt (-3.8% per year) and Lebanon (+19.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -8.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 28%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+5.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of jams, jellies, puree and pastes were finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Saudi Arabia (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the key importers of jams, jellies, puree and pastes in MENA, together recording near 36% of total imports. Iran (X tons) took an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Turkey (9.5%) and Israel (6.8%). The following importers - Iraq (X tons), Libya (X tons), Lebanon (X tons), Yemen (X tons), Kuwait (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Algeria (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) - together made up 28% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +28.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest jam, jelly, puree and paste importing markets in MENA were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Israel ($X), with a combined 50% share of total imports. Iran, Kuwait, Turkey, Egypt, Iraq, Morocco, Libya, Lebanon, Yemen and Algeria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 38%.

Among the main importing countries, Yemen, with a CAGR of +15.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -10.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 14%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+5.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
