In value terms, fruit or nut preserves exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a prominent expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Turkey (X tons) was the largest exporter of jams, marmalades, fruit jellies, fruit or nut purees and pastes, comprising 76% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Iran (X tons), constituting a 10% share of total exports. The following exporters - the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), Lebanon (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) - together made up 11% of total exports.

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +14.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+17.6%), Lebanon (+16.8%), Iran (+14.3%) and Syrian Arab Republic (+2.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +17.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Egypt (-4.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Syrian Arab Republic and Egypt saw its share reduced by -3.4% and -6.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest fruit or nut preserves supplier in MENA, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Lebanon ($X), with a 2.4% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey stood at +11.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lebanon (+19.8% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+22.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -1.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 29%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of jams, marmalades, fruit jellies, fruit or nut purees and pastes were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the three major importers of jams, marmalades, fruit jellies, fruit or nut purees and pastes, namely Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, represented more than half of total import. Iran (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Iraq (X tons) and Israel (X tons). All these countries together took near 22% share of total imports. Libya (X tons), Lebanon (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Kuwait (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Yemen (X tons) and Jordan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +42.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest fruit or nut preserves importing markets in MENA were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Israel ($X), together accounting for 48% of total imports. Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Morocco, Jordan, Libya, Lebanon, Algeria and Yemen lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 42%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Turkey, with a CAGR of +15.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -13.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 12% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then declined in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
