Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +15.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Israel (+28.8%) and the United Arab Emirates (+6.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Israel emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +28.8% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey and Israel increased by +17 and +5.1 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) emerged as the largest knife and scissors supplier in MENA, comprising 67% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Israel ($X), with an 18% share of total exports.

In Turkey, knife and scissors exports expanded at an average annual rate of +16.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Israel (+29.5% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+5.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 26%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, imports of knives, scissors and blades in MENA stood at X tons, increasing by 4.1% on 2020. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 27%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, knife and scissors imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +33.4% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Iran (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Israel (X tons) was the major importer of knives, scissors and blades in MENA, mixing up 78% of total import. Morocco (X tons), Libya (X tons), Yemen (X tons), Tunisia (X tons), Kuwait (X tons) and Djibouti (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Iraq (with a CAGR of +12.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported knives, scissors and blades in MENA, comprising 27% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Israel, with a 12% share.

In the United Arab Emirates, knife and scissors imports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (-4.8% per year) and Israel (+8.2% per year).
