Israel represented the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at 47% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Iran (X tons), together comprising a 50% share of total exports. Jordan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +296.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, the largest lactam supplying countries in MENA were Israel ($X), Jordan ($X) and Iran ($X), together comprising 90% of total exports. These countries were followed by Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, which together accounted for a further 9.7%.

Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +105.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 68% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Jordan ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (+54.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of lactams from heterocyclic compounds increased by 208% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after three years of decline. In general, imports showed a strong increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, lactam imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed a prominent increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Turkey (X tons) represented the main importer of lactams from heterocyclic compounds, achieving 75% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons), generating a 20% share of total imports. Israel (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the lactams from heterocyclic compounds imports, with a CAGR of +36.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+31.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Israel (-10.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+54 p.p.) and Saudi Arabia (+12 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Israel (-23.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported lactams from heterocyclic compounds in MENA, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 10% share of total imports.

In Turkey, lactam imports increased at an average annual rate of +28.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (+24.1% per year) and Israel (-9.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, falling by -32.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 22%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+1.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
