The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, rendered pig fat imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 49% against the previous year. Imports by Country

Israel was the main importer of lard and other pig fat (rendered) in MENA, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 55% of total imports in 2021. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 24% share, followed by Saudi Arabia (13%). The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest rendered pig fat importing markets in MENA were Israel ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a combined 82% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Oman and Tunisia, which together accounted for a further 14%.

Oman, with a CAGR of +106.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, remaining stable against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 35% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Oman ($X per ton), while Israel ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
