The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, starter battery exports reached $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +46.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 35%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Turkey prevails in exports structure, resulting at X units, which was near 81% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X units), comprising a 4.8% share of total exports. The following exporters - Egypt (X units), Tunisia (X units), Oman (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units) and Morocco (X units) - together made up 14% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to starter battery exports from Turkey stood at +9.0%. At the same time, Morocco (+116.9%), Egypt (+30.3%) and the United Arab Emirates (+4.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +116.9% from 2012-2022. Oman experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Tunisia (-3.4%) and Saudi Arabia (-6.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+16 p.p.), Egypt (+2.9 p.p.) and Morocco (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Oman, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia saw its share reduced by -2.3%, -5.5% and -12.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest starter battery supplier in MENA, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 6.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 4.5% share.

In Turkey, starter battery exports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (-4.6% per year) and Egypt (+32.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per unit), while Tunisia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, starter battery imports in MENA contracted to X units, declining by -9.2% against 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X units), distantly followed by Iraq (X units), Turkey (X units), Yemen (X units), Algeria (X units) and Israel (X units) were the main importers of lead-acid accumulators for starting piston engines, together generating 69% of total imports. Kuwait (X units), Libya (X units), Morocco (X units), Egypt (X units), Oman (X units), Qatar (X units) and Syrian Arab Republic (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Qatar (with a CAGR of +15.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported lead-acid accumulators for starting piston engines in MENA, comprising 23% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Iraq ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 7.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates stood at +1.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Iraq (+6.7% per year) and Turkey (+4.4% per year).

In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, leveling off at the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 24%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
