Linoleum Market Size in MENA

The MENA's linoleum market fell to $X in 2021, remaining constant against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, showed a perceptible reduction. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

Linoleum Production in MENA

In value terms, linoleum production fell slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, recorded a noticeable contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the production volume increased by 4.3%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports in MENA

In 2021, overseas shipments of linoleum increased by 17% to X square meters, rising for the second consecutive year after four years of decline. In general, exports, however, showed a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 164% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X square meters. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, linoleum exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 77% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Yemen represented the main exporting country with an export of about X square meters, which recorded 42% of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X square meters) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Turkey (X square meters), Jordan (X square meters) and Oman (X square meters). All these countries together took approx. 52% share of total exports. Syrian Arab Republic (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Oman (with a CAGR of +71.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), Yemen ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 86% of total exports. These countries were followed by Jordan, Syrian Arab Republic and Oman, which together accounted for a further 11%.

Among the main exporting countries, Oman, with a CAGR of +24.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per square meter, with a decrease of -5.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the export price increased by 97% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per square meter in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per square meter), while Oman ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Syrian Arab Republic (+13.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Linoleum Imports

Imports in MENA

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of linoleum increased by 44% to X square meters in 2021. Total imports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -19.0% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X square meters in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, linoleum imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 45%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the three major importers of linoleum, namely Yemen, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey, represented more than half of total import. Syrian Arab Republic (X square meters) held a 6.5% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Bahrain (4.6%) and Kuwait (4.5%). Iraq (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Bahrain (with a CAGR of +32.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Yemen ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 56% share of total imports. Iraq, Bahrain, Kuwait and Syrian Arab Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.

Bahrain, with a CAGR of +30.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per square meter in 2021, declining by -8.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 9.6%. The level of import peaked at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Iraq ($X per square meter), while Syrian Arab Republic ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
