The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 505% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped notably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Qatar represented the key exporter of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in MENA, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. 53% of total exports in 2022. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Algeria (X tons). All these countries together took near 39% share of total exports. Kuwait (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +12.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Qatar ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 85% share of total exports.

The United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +6.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, approximately reflecting the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 32%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Kuwait ($X per ton) and Algeria ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (-3.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, purchases abroad of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) increased by 47% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +85.8% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The following importers - Tunisia (X tons), Algeria (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) - together made up 6.3% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Kuwait (with a CAGR of +197.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kuwait ($X), Turkey ($X) and Morocco ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 80% share of total imports.

Kuwait, with a CAGR of +161.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 30% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
