From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Turkey (X units) represented the key exporter of machinery for making up paper pulp, paper or paperboard, constituting 65% of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 20% share, followed by Israel (7.7%). Saudi Arabia (X units) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to paper making machinery exports from Turkey stood at +11.9%. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+20.6%), Saudi Arabia (+11.5%) and Israel (+6.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +20.6% from 2012-2021. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +40.2% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +52.4% against 2019 indices. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the three major importers of machinery for making up paper pulp, paper or paperboard, namely Turkey, Algeria and the United Arab Emirates, represented more than half of total import. Israel (X units) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Morocco (X units). All these countries together took near 13% share of total imports. The following importers - Egypt (X units), Iraq (X units), Iran (X units), Qatar (X units), Tunisia (X units), Yemen (X units) and Kuwait (X units) - together made up 18% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Israel (with a CAGR of +26.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest paper making machinery importing markets in MENA were Turkey ($X), Algeria ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), together comprising 69% of total imports. Israel, Morocco, Egypt, Iran, Tunisia, Kuwait, Iraq, Qatar and Yemen lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.

Israel, with a CAGR of +26.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 22% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Algeria ($X per unit), while Qatar ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
