For the third year in a row, the MENA's machinery for packing market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -15.7% to $X in 2022. In general, consumption continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Machinery For Packing Production in MENA
In value terms, machinery for packing production reduced markedly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 105%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in MENA
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of machinery for packing or wrapping, when their volume decreased by -7.2% to X units. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 27%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, machinery for packing exports dropped to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +9.7% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
Exports by Country
Turkey dominates exports structure, reaching X units, which was near 86% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X units), mixing up a 6.7% share of total exports. The following exporters - Israel (X units) and Saudi Arabia (X units) - each finished at a 4.2% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to machinery for packing exports from Turkey stood at +9.5%. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+22.2%), the United Arab Emirates (+14.2%) and Israel (+9.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Saudi Arabia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +22.2% from 2012-2022. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+2.4 p.p.) and Turkey (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest machinery for packing supplier in MENA, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Israel ($X), with a 5.8% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 4.8% share.
In Turkey, machinery for packing exports expanded at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Israel (+8.1% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+13.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -2.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 9.9%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per unit), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+0.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MENA
In 2022, the amount of machinery for packing or wrapping imported in MENA declined slightly to X units, dropping by -1.6% on 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 15%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, machinery for packing imports reduced sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Turkey (X units), distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X units), Algeria (X units), Iran (X units), Iraq (X units), Egypt (X units), Israel (X units), Morocco (X units) and Qatar (X units) represented the major importers of machinery for packing or wrapping, together constituting 84% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Qatar (with a CAGR of +27.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Algeria ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 50% share of total imports. Egypt, Iran, Israel, Morocco, Iraq and Qatar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 35%.
Qatar, with a CAGR of +16.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -14.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 9.2%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
