In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 8.3%. After two years of growth, purchases abroad of maltodextrine and maltodextine syrup decreased by -2.3% to X tons in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 33%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, maltodextrine imports rose slightly to $X in 2021. In 2021, Turkey (X tons), distantly followed by Egypt (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Israel (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the major importers of maltodextrine and maltodextine syrup, together creating 77% of total imports. Morocco (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Yemen (X tons), Oman (X tons), Kuwait (X tons), Iran (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Oman (with a CAGR of +14.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest maltodextrine importing markets in MENA were Saudi Arabia ($X), Turkey ($X) and Algeria ($X), with a combined 49% share of total imports. Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 4.1% against the previous year. Import price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, maltodextrine import price increased by +57.5% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 22% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Iraq ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
