The average mango and mangosteen yield surged to X tons per ha in 2022, rising by 25% compared with 2021. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. As a result, the yield reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2022, the total area harvested in terms of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas production in MENA fell rapidly to X ha, shrinking by -74.8% against the year before. Overall, the harvested area saw a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the harvested area increased by 11% against the previous year. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 39% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, mango and mangosteen exports rose markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 54%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Egypt (X tons) and Yemen (X tons) represented the major exporters of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas in 2022, amounting to approx. 40% and 38% of total exports, respectively. Israel (X tons) took a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the United Arab Emirates (4.7%).
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Egypt (with a CAGR of +10.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Egypt ($X) emerged as the largest mango and mangosteen supplier in MENA, comprising 51% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Yemen ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Israel, with a 19% share.
In Egypt, mango and mangosteen exports expanded at an average annual rate of +14.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Yemen (+5.6% per year) and Israel (+4.9% per year).

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 5.8% against the previous year. Export price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, mango and mangosteen export price increased by +60.9% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, overseas purchases of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas decreased by -8.7% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, mango and mangosteen imports fell to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) were the largest importers of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas in MENA, together mixing up 61% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Oman (X tons), Yemen (X tons), Kuwait (X tons) and Morocco (X tons), together achieving a 25% share of total imports. Qatar (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Morocco (with a CAGR of +28.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Oman ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 62% of total imports. Kuwait, Qatar, Yemen and Morocco lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.
Among the main importing countries, Morocco, with a CAGR of +29.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, flattening at the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.8%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the import price increased by 22% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell slightly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while Morocco ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
