Mattress Market Size in MENA
The MENA's mattress market reduced modestly to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -3.5% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption decreased by -15.2% against 2019 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.
Mattress Production in MENA
In value terms, mattress production declined to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, posted a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Mattress Exports
Exports in MENA
In 2022, exports of mattresses in MENA shrank to X units, which is down by -12.7% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 51%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, mattress exports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 32%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
Exports by Country
Turkey was the largest exporting country with an export of around X units, which recorded 64% of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 15% share, followed by Palestine (9.9%) and Oman (4.6%). The following exporters - Saudi Arabia (X units), Iran (X units) and Egypt (X units) - together made up 6.1% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to mattress exports from Turkey stood at +14.2%. At the same time, Egypt (+78.1%), Palestine (+13.2%), Saudi Arabia (+12.5%), Iran (+11.9%), the United Arab Emirates (+8.6%) and Oman (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Egypt emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +78.1% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkey, Egypt and Palestine increased by +14, +1.5 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest mattress supplier in MENA, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Palestine, with a 9.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey stood at +14.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (+4.3% per year) and Palestine (+7.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, growing by 4.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 30% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Iran ($X per unit), while Saudi Arabia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (+11.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Mattress Imports
Imports in MENA
In 2022, mattress imports in MENA declined significantly to X units, reducing by -58.5% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 603%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then fell remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, mattress imports contracted slightly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 15% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Qatar prevails in imports structure, reaching X units, which was near 66% of total imports in 2022. The United Arab Emirates (X units) held a 9.3% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kuwait (5.2%) and Bahrain (4.7%). Israel (X units), Iraq (X units) and Turkey (X units) took a little share of total imports.
Qatar was also the fastest-growing in terms of the mattresses imports, with a CAGR of +29.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Bahrain (+12.2%), Israel (+10.1%), Iraq (+8.1%), Kuwait (+7.1%), Turkey (+4.3%) and the United Arab Emirates (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Qatar increased by +49 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest mattress importing markets in MENA were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Israel ($X) and Kuwait ($X), together accounting for 41% of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, Israel, with a CAGR of +10.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 132% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a deep slump. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per unit), while Qatar ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
