As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, medicaments containing penicillin imports reduced to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 61%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.

Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) represented roughly 50% of total imports in 2021. Algeria (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 16% share, followed by the United Arab Emirates (10%) and Oman (6.2%). Algeria, with a CAGR of +76.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, surging by 7.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the import price increased by 31% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
