The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +50.9% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, non-knitted men apparel exports soared to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 24% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Turkey represented the major exporting country with an export of about X units, which resulted at 65% of total exports. Egypt (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Tunisia (X units) and Morocco (X units). All these countries together took near 34% share of total exports.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the men's or boys' clothing (not knitted or crocheted) exports, with a CAGR of +8.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Tunisia (+3.4%) and Egypt (+3.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Morocco (-1.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkey increased by +15 percentage points.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest non-knitted men apparel supplier in MENA, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tunisia ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 16% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey stood at +3.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tunisia (+0.4% per year) and Egypt (+8.2% per year).

The export price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2022, reducing by -4.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 13%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per unit), while Turkey ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+4.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, non-knitted men apparel imports in MENA shrank slightly to X units, which is down by -4.7% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports recorded a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 28%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-knitted men apparel imports fell sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 29%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X units) and Turkey (X units) represented the main importers of men's or boys' clothing (not knitted or crocheted) in MENA, together constituting 36% of total imports. Qatar (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Israel (10%), Iraq (9.6%), Algeria (8.3%), Libya (5.4%), Djibouti (4.9%) and Morocco (4.6%).

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Qatar (with a CAGR of +34.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Israel ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 66% share of total imports. Qatar, Iraq, Morocco, Djibouti, Algeria and Libya lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.

Qatar, with a CAGR of +11.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2022, with a decrease of -13.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the import price increased by 51% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per unit), while Algeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
