Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +65.7% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 20% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, odoriferous substance mixture imports amounted to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by +0.8% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 29%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In 2022, Turkey (X tons), Algeria (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) was the key importer of mixtures of odoriferous substances and their preparations in MENA, mixing up 52% of total import. Iran (X tons) took a 7.4% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Iraq (6.2%), Saudi Arabia (5.4%) and Israel (5.1%). The following importers - Morocco (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Libya (X tons), Yemen (X tons), Tunisia (X tons) and Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) - together made up 18% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Iraq (with a CAGR of +19.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Algeria ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 52% share of total imports. Saudi Arabia, Iran, Israel, Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, Syrian Arab Republic and Yemen lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 40%.

Iraq, with a CAGR of +14.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 7.7% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+6.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
