In 2021, the MENA's mixtures of slag market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a slight curtailment. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, mixtures of slag production rose sharply to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 30%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in MENA
For the fourth year in a row, MENA recorded growth in overseas shipments of mixtures of slag, which increased by 213% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports posted a significant increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, mixtures of slag exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports posted a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 234%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 84% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Palestine (X tons), making up a 7.3% share of total exports. Turkey (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the mixtures of slag exports, with a CAGR of +50.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Egypt (+35.0%) and Oman (+17.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Palestine experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Turkey (-2.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United Arab Emirates (+55 p.p.) and Palestine (+7.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Oman and Turkey saw its share reduced by -6.7% and -55.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest mixtures of slag supplier in MENA, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Palestine, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates totaled +35.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (+13.9% per year) and Palestine (+109.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -54.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 72% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+17.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Mixtures Of Slag Imports
Imports in MENA
In 2021, supplies from abroad of mixtures of slag increased by 664% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports enjoyed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 3,852% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, mixtures of slag imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 1,260%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Kuwait (X tons) represented the main importer of mixtures of slag, creating 68% of total imports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Egypt (X tons), together mixing up a 20% share of total imports. The following importers - Yemen (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Iraq (X tons) - together made up 8.5% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to mixtures of slag imports into Kuwait stood at +74.4%. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+86.6%), Egypt (+68.2%), Saudi Arabia (+57.7%) and Yemen (+15.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +86.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Iraq (-25.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kuwait (+68 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+11 p.p.), Egypt (+8 p.p.) and Saudi Arabia (+3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Iraq saw its share reduced by -87.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kuwait ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported mixtures of slag in MENA, comprising 73% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 5.5% share.
In Kuwait, mixtures of slag imports expanded at an average annual rate of +184.9% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+49.2% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+2.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -8.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 160%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kuwait (+64.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
