The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, molybdenum oxides and hydroxides exports fell slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 293%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Iran represented the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 74% of total exports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Turkey (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 25% share of total exports.
Exports from Iran increased at an average annual rate of +16.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+30.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +30.5% from 2012-2022. Turkey experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-8.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates increased by +12, +8.3 and +4.8 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Iran ($X) remains the largest molybdenum oxides and hydroxides supplier in MENA, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 13% share.
In Iran, molybdenum oxides and hydroxides exports increased at an average annual rate of +12.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (0.0% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-13.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 7.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (-3.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MENA
In 2022, approx. X tons of molybdenum oxides and hydroxides were imported in MENA; remaining stable against 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 285%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, molybdenum oxides and hydroxides imports dropped slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a strong expansion. Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Kuwait ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
