The biggest shipments were from Jordan (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Algeria (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons), together recording 93% of total export. Egypt (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Jordan (with a CAGR of +64.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest natural cork supplying countries in MENA were Jordan ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Morocco ($X), with a combined 60% share of total exports.
Jordan, with a CAGR of +45.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In 2021, purchases abroad of natural cork debacked or roughly squared decreased by -3.9% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports faced a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 83%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, natural cork imports expanded to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 58% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Bahrain (X tons) and Yemen (X tons) represented roughly 54% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Qatar (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Iran (X tons), together creating a 40% share of total imports.
