The MENA's non-wheat flour market dropped to $X in 2021, with a decrease of -8.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a mild decrease. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, non-wheat flour production stood at $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in MENA
Non-wheat flour exports contracted to X tons in 2021, which is down by -7.2% compared with the previous year. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 150%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-wheat flour exports reached $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 68% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Turkey dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 75% of total exports in 2021. Morocco (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Egypt (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 20% share of total exports.
Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the non-wheat flours exports, with a CAGR of +32.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Egypt (+15.4%) and Morocco (+11.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-10.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey and Egypt increased by +59 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest non-wheat flour supplier in MENA, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Egypt, with an 8.5% share.
In Turkey, non-wheat flour exports expanded at an average annual rate of +22.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (-6.1% per year) and Egypt (+9.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 8.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 28% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+5.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Non-Wheat Flour Imports
Imports in MENA
For the third consecutive year, MENA recorded growth in purchases abroad of non-wheat flours, which increased by 34% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +136.6% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 38%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, non-wheat flour imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a temperate increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Israel (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) represented roughly 47% of total imports in 2021. Oman (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Lebanon (X tons), Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Jordan (X tons), Iraq (X tons) and Yemen (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 44% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Syrian Arab Republic (with a CAGR of +34.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Israel ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Oman ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 64% of total imports. Qatar, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Syrian Arab Republic and Yemen lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.
Syrian Arab Republic, with a CAGR of +21.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 2.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 13%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
