In 2021, after five years of growth, there was significant decline in the MENA's market for non-woven, felt and coated textile garments, when its value decreased by -20.9% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a resilient increase. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
Production of Non-Woven, Felt and Coated Textile Garments in MENA
In value terms, production of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments declined modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +52.6% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the production volume increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production of hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

Exports in MENA
Exports of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments reduced to X units in 2021, shrinking by -8% against 2020 figures. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 134% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, exports of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments contracted rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 253% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.
Exports by Country
Turkey was the key exporting country with an export of around X units, which accounted for 44% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X units), Egypt (X units), Oman (X units), Tunisia (X units) and Morocco (X units), together making up a 52% share of total exports. Saudi Arabia (X units) held a little share of total exports.
Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +48.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Oman (+54.3%), Morocco (+27.8%), Tunisia (+8.0%) and Saudi Arabia (+7.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +54.3% from 2012-2021. Egypt experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-10.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+41 p.p.), Oman (+10 p.p.) and Morocco (+5.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Egypt (-10.5 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (-46.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest non-woven, felt and coated textile garment supplier in MENA, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Egypt ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Tunisia, with a 12% share.
In Turkey, exports of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments expanded at an average annual rate of +38.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Egypt (-3.7% per year) and Tunisia (+4.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2021, shrinking by -37.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a slight expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 51% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per unit), while Oman ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+7.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Imports of Non-Woven, Felt and Coated Textile Garments
Imports in MENA
In 2021, approx. X units of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments were imported in MENA; with a decrease of -40.7% on 2020. In general, imports, however, showed a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 201%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then plummeted in the following year.
In value terms, imports of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments dropped rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 60%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Qatar (X units), distantly followed by Oman (X units), Iraq (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units), Turkey (X units) and Bahrain (X units) were the main importers of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments, together making up 76% of total imports. Jordan (X units), Kuwait (X units), Israel (X units), Iran (X units), Morocco (X units), Libya (X units) and Yemen (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Qatar was also the fastest-growing in terms of the non-woven, felt and coated textile garments imports, with a CAGR of +32.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Libya (+29.4%), Bahrain (+19.5%), Morocco (+16.5%), Israel (+12.2%), Jordan (+10.9%), Yemen (+9.9%), Kuwait (+5.6%) and Iraq (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-2.3%), Turkey (-5.4%), Oman (-10.1%) and Iran (-10.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, Israel, Libya and Morocco increased by +24, +4.5, +2.2, +2.2, +2 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Iraq ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 40% of total imports. Israel, Qatar, Kuwait, Libya, Jordan, Oman, Morocco, Bahrain, Yemen and Iran lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 35%.
Morocco, with a CAGR of +13.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 1.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 42%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while Oman ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
