In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of non-woven glass fibre webs, felts, mattresses and boards, when their volume increased by 17% to X tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 17%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, non-woven glass fibre articles exports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a pronounced decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 63% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Turkey dominates exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 75% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kuwait (X tons), Tunisia (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons), together creating an 18% share of total exports. The following exporters - Iran (X tons), Bahrain (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) - together made up 6.6% of total exports.

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +17.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Bahrain (+79.7%), Tunisia (+52.3%), Iran (+21.9%), Saudi Arabia (+9.6%) and the United Arab Emirates (+4.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bahrain emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +79.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kuwait (-21.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey, Tunisia, Iran and Bahrain increased by +52, +5.6, +2.5 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest non-woven glass fibre articles supplier in MENA, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Tunisia, with a 7.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey totaled +13.9%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-2.2% per year) and Tunisia (+33.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -4.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 62%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (-0.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MENA

In 2021, approx. X tons of non-woven glass fibre webs, felts, mattresses and boards were imported in MENA; picking up by 9.3% on the year before. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 32%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-woven glass fibre articles imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -29.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 71%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Israel (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) represented roughly 51% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Qatar (X tons) and Morocco (X tons), together achieving a 31% share of total imports. Algeria (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Qatar (with a CAGR of +43.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Israel ($X), Turkey ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 65% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Morocco, Qatar, Iraq and Algeria, which together accounted for a further 13%.

Qatar, with a CAGR of +29.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 20% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 32%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Iraq ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
