Nucleic acid exports skyrocketed to X tons in 2022, jumping by 209% against 2021. Overall, exports saw a slight increase. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, nucleic acid exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a prominent expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Israel (X tons) represented the major exporter of nucleic acids and their salts, committing 58% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Turkey (X tons), together committing a 37% share of total exports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to nucleic acid exports from Israel stood at +2.9%. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+32.8%) and Turkey (+5.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Saudi Arabia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +32.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-1.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Israel, Saudi Arabia and Turkey increased by +5.9, +4.1 and +2.6 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Israel ($X) remains the largest nucleic acid supplier in MENA, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 4% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Israel amounted to +11.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (-11.9% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+28.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 202% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw resilient growth. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+8.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MENA

In 2022, approx. X tons of nucleic acids and their salts were imported in MENA; rising by 19% compared with the previous year. Total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +27.4% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, nucleic acid imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Turkey was the largest importer of nucleic acids and their salts in MENA, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 51% of total imports in 2022. Israel (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Egypt (X tons), Iran (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 36% share of total imports. Algeria (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +11.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+18.9%), Egypt (+6.5%) and Algeria (+5.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +18.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Israel (-4.3%), Saudi Arabia (-4.7%) and Iran (-6.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+26 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+5.2 p.p.) and Egypt (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Saudi Arabia, Israel and Iran saw its share reduced by -3.9%, -14.4% and -15.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported nucleic acids and their salts in MENA, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Israel ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 14% share.

In Turkey, nucleic acid imports expanded at an average annual rate of +9.4% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Israel (-4.5% per year) and Egypt (+5.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -5.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern.
