In value terms, optical fiber and bundle production contracted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +10.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the production volume increased by 40% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in MENA
Optical fiber and bundle exports expanded markedly to X tons in 2022, picking up by 11% on 2021. Overall, exports posted a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 88%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, optical fiber and bundle exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 116% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Oman (X tons) was the main exporter of optical fibers and bundles, constituting 75% of total exports. Israel (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 14% share, followed by Turkey (5.5%). The following exporters - the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) - each accounted for a 3.3% share of total exports.
Exports from Oman increased at an average annual rate of +49.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Morocco (+99.1%) and the United Arab Emirates (+7.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +99.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Israel (-7.7%) and Turkey (-17.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Oman (+73 p.p.) and Morocco (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Israel (-27.1 p.p.) and Turkey (-41.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest optical fiber and bundle supplying countries in MENA were Israel ($X), Oman ($X) and Turkey ($X), with a combined 90% share of total exports. The United Arab Emirates and Morocco lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 7.9%.
Morocco, with a CAGR of +124.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 50% against the previous year. Export price indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, optical fiber and bundle export price increased by +72.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the export price increased by 83%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+31.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Optical Fibers and Bundles
Imports in MENA
In 2022, the amount of optical fibers and bundles imported in MENA amounted to X tons, picking up by 9.6% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports saw a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, optical fiber and bundle imports soared to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +49.3% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Morocco (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) represented the key importer of optical fibers and bundles in MENA, constituting 72% of total import. Israel (X tons) took an 8.6% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Oman (7.6%). Qatar (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Qatar (with a CAGR of +56.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Morocco ($X), Turkey ($X) and Israel ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 75% share of total imports.
Morocco, with a CAGR of +57.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 18% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 21%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Qatar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+15.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
