Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage. Israel (X units) and Saudi Arabia (X units) were the major exporters of optical telescopes in 2021, reaching near 49% and 34% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X units), constituting an 11% share of total exports. Iran (X units) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +30.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Israel ($X) remains the largest optical telescope supplier in MENA, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 3.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Iran, with a 1.9% share.

In Israel, optical telescope exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (+29.9% per year) and Iran (-7.8% per year).

In 2021, overseas purchases of optical telescopes increased by 63% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after four years of decline. In general, imports showed strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 121% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, optical telescope imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports posted a buoyant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Algeria represented the largest importing country with an import of about X units, which finished at 69% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X units), mixing up an 18% share of total imports. Israel (X units), Morocco (X units) and the United Arab Emirates (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.

Algeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the optical telescopes imports, with a CAGR of +29.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Morocco (+12.8%) and Turkey (+10.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-5.3%) and Israel (-18.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, rising by 107% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a slight slump. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
