The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 28%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Turkey (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together committing 74% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X tons), mixing up a 9.8% share of total exports. The following exporters - Oman (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Lebanon (X tons) - each finished at an 11% share of total exports.

In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 5.3% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 17%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

All these countries together held approx. 43% share of total imports. Bahrain (X tons), Israel (X tons), Oman (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Iran (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

Imports into Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Algeria (+9.2%), Saudi Arabia (+8.9%), Iraq (+7.9%), the United Arab Emirates (+5.6%), Kuwait (+5.1%), Morocco (+4.9%), Bahrain (+2.5%), Iran (+1.7%) and Israel (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Algeria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +9.2% from 2012-2022. Qatar and Oman experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Egypt (-2.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iraq, Algeria and the United Arab Emirates increased by +3.7, +3.6, +2, +1.9 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported paints and varnishes dispersed or dissolved in a non-aqueous medium in MENA, comprising 33% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 7.4% share.
