As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Turkey (X tons) represented the main exporter of paper sacks and bags, constituting 47% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Morocco (X tons), Oman (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons), together making up a 40% share of total exports. The following exporters - Kuwait (X tons) and Jordan (X tons) - each accounted for a 7.4% share of total exports.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest paper sack and bag supplier in MENA, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Morocco ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 7.7% share.

In Turkey, paper sack and bag exports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.9% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Morocco (+7.8% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+0.9% per year).

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 16% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Turkey ($X per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Morocco ($X per ton) and Oman ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+3.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the amount of paper sacks and bags imported in MENA skyrocketed to X tons, rising by 26% compared with 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

The purchases of the three major importers of paper sacks and bags, namely Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Israel, represented more than third of total import. Libya (X tons) held an 8.2% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Iraq (7.9%), Qatar (5.2%), Algeria (5.1%) and Kuwait (5.1%). Morocco (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Israel ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 53% of total imports. These countries were followed by Kuwait, Algeria, Libya, Iraq, Qatar and Morocco, which together accounted for a further 32%.

Among the main importing countries, Kuwait, with a CAGR of +17.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 9.2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per ton), while Iraq ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
