Turkey was the key exporter of phenolic resins in primary forms in MENA, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 81% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), mixing up a 15% share of total exports.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the phenolic resins in primary forms exports, with a CAGR of +18.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+3.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey and the United Arab Emirates increased by +62 and +3.3 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest phenolic resins supplier in MENA, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 20% share of total exports.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -11.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the export price increased by 85%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Turkey totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (-0.6%).

Imports in MENA

For the third consecutive year, MENA recorded growth in purchases abroad of phenolic resins in primary forms, which increased by 28% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, phenolic resins imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Turkey represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at 50% of total imports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Iran (X tons), together generating a 33% share of total imports. The following importers - Iraq (X tons), Kuwait (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) - together made up 8.5% of total imports.

Imports into Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kuwait (+12.6%), Saudi Arabia (+12.5%), the United Arab Emirates (+10.2%) and Iran (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kuwait emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +12.6% from 2012-2021. Morocco experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Iraq (-3.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait increased by +21, +8.5, +7.7 and +1.6 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported phenolic resins in primary forms in MENA, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 12% share.

In Turkey, phenolic resins imports increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Saudi Arabia (+11.9% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+8.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, rising by 8.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 27% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Iraq ($X per ton) and Kuwait ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) and Iran ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iraq (+2.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
