In 2021, approx. X units of photographic flashbulbs and flashcubes were exported in MENA; waning by -75.9% on 2020. In general, exports faced a dramatic shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 2,597%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, photographic flashbulb exports reduced to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a sharp setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 548%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Israel was the largest exporter of photographic flashbulbs and flashcubes in MENA, with the volume of exports finishing at X units, which was approx. 58% of total exports in 2021. Saudi Arabia (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 15% share, followed by the United Arab Emirates (14%) and Algeria (7.2%). The following exporters - Turkey (X units) and Oman (X units) - each accounted for a 3.9% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to photographic flashbulb exports from Israel stood at -40.4%. At the same time, Oman (+18.1%) and Saudi Arabia (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +18.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-4.0%), Algeria (-14.1%) and Turkey (-22.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Saudi Arabia (+15 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+14 p.p.), Algeria (+6.8 p.p.), Turkey (+1.8 p.p.) and Oman (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Israel (-40.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, the largest photographic flashbulb supplying countries in MENA were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Israel ($X), with a combined 92% share of total exports.
Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +4.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, growing by 271% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 514%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while Oman ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+10.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MENA
In 2021, overseas purchases of photographic flashbulbs and flashcubes were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports showed moderate growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, photographic flashbulb imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a slight shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Morocco represented the key importing country with an import of around X units, which amounted to 62% of total imports. Israel (X units) held a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the United Arab Emirates (11%). The following importers - Turkey (X units), Djibouti (X units), Iraq (X units) and Kuwait (X units) - together made up 9.5% of total imports.
Morocco was also the fastest-growing in terms of the photographic flashbulbs and flashcubes imports, with a CAGR of +73.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Djibouti (+51.1%), Kuwait (+48.3%), Turkey (+24.5%), the United Arab Emirates (+6.8%) and Israel (+5.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Iraq experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Morocco (+61 p.p.), Israel (+3.9 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+3.2 p.p.), Djibouti (+2.7 p.p.), Turkey (+2.6 p.p.) and Kuwait (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X), Israel ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 78% of total imports. These countries were followed by Kuwait, Djibouti, Morocco and Iraq, which together accounted for a further 15%.
Kuwait, with a CAGR of +66.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2021, reducing by -49.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 288%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per unit), while Morocco ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kuwait (+12.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
