In 2021, shipments abroad of photographic plates and film, photographic paper, paperboard and textiles and instant print film, sensitized, unexposed was finally on the rise to reach X square meters after two years of decline. Total exports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X square meters in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, photographic film exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Turkey (X square meters) was the largest exporter of photographic plates and film, photographic paper, paperboard and textiles and instant print film, sensitized, unexposed, making up 60% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X square meters) and Oman (X square meters), together constituting a 36% share of total exports. Kuwait (X square meters) took a little share of total exports.
Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +14.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kuwait (+28.2%) and Oman (+16.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kuwait emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +28.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-5.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+39 p.p.) and Oman (+4.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-30.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest photographic film supplier in MENA, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Oman, with a 6.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey stood at +9.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (-5.2% per year) and Oman (+29.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per square meter, rising by 7.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per square meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per square meter), while Kuwait ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (+10.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Photographic Film Imports
Imports in MENA
Photographic film imports soared to X square meters in 2021, picking up by 59% against 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced reduction. The volume of import peaked at X square meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country
Turkey was the key importer of photographic plates and film, photographic paper, paperboard and textiles and instant print film, sensitized, unexposed in MENA, with the volume of imports finishing at X square meters, which was approx. 48% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X square meters), Iran (X square meters) and Israel (X square meters), together generating a 32% share of total imports. Algeria (X square meters), Egypt (X square meters), Iraq (X square meters), Morocco (X square meters) and Saudi Arabia (X square meters) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to photographic film imports into Turkey stood at +3.4%. At the same time, Israel (+8.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Israel emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +8.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Iraq (-1.6%), Morocco (-1.9%), the United Arab Emirates (-2.3%), Algeria (-6.8%), Iran (-7.9%), Egypt (-13.2%) and Saudi Arabia (-16.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+19 p.p.) and Israel (+4.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Algeria (-1.9 p.p.), Saudi Arabia (-5.1 p.p.), Iran (-5.6 p.p.) and Egypt (-6.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported photographic plates and film, photographic paper, paperboard and textiles and instant print film, sensitized, unexposed in MENA, comprising 39% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Iran, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey totaled +2.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-5.1% per year) and Iran (-2.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per square meter, with an increase of 2.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per square meter in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per square meter), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
