In 2021, the MENA's plastic household ware market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

For the sixth consecutive year, MENA recorded growth in shipments abroad of plastics household articles and toilet articles, which increased by 69% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a resilient increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Turkey prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 80% of total exports in 2021. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 7.7% share, followed by Israel (5.7%). Iran (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the plastics household articles and toilet articles exports, with a CAGR of +19.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Iran (+12.5%), the United Arab Emirates (+3.9%) and Israel (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Turkey (+38 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-6.3 p.p.) and Israel (-7.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest plastic household ware supplier in MENA, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Israel ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 7.3% share.

In Turkey, plastic household ware exports increased at an average annual rate of +16.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Israel (+4.1% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+9.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of plastics household articles and toilet articles, when their volume increased by 22% to X tons. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plastic household ware imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 34%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the five major importers of plastics household articles and toilet articles, namely Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Israel, Iraq and Kuwait, represented more than half of total import. Yemen (X tons), Libya (X tons), Oman (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Jordan (X tons), Bahrain (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Yemen (with a CAGR of +13.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Israel ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 53% of total imports. Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Turkey, Jordan, Qatar, Yemen, Oman, Bahrain and Morocco lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 38%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Yemen, with a CAGR of +19.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 4.2% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 12%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
