As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, shaving preparations exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Turkey dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 93% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), achieving a 4.5% share of total exports.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the pre-shave, shaving and after-shave preparations (excluding soap in blocks) exports, with a CAGR of +6.4% from 2012 to 2021. The United Arab Emirates experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey increased by +7.2 percentage points.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest shaving preparations supplier in MENA, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 4.5% share of total exports.

In Turkey, shaving preparations exports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -3.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 3.5%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Turkey stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (-4.1%).

Imports in MENA

In 2021, purchases abroad of pre-shave, shaving and after-shave preparations (excluding soap in blocks) was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 15%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, shaving preparations imports amounted to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates was the main importer of pre-shave, shaving and after-shave preparations (excluding soap in blocks) in MENA, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was near 29% of total imports in 2021. Saudi Arabia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Israel (10%), Iran (8.1%), Turkey (6.7%), Iraq (6.1%) and Morocco (4.8%). Kuwait (X tons), Jordan (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Oman (X tons), Qatar (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to shaving preparations imports into the United Arab Emirates stood at -8.2%. At the same time, Jordan (+5.2%) and Kuwait (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Jordan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +5.2% from 2012-2021. Morocco and Qatar experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Bahrain (-1.8%), Egypt (-2.0%), Israel (-2.0%), Iran (-2.9%), Iraq (-5.8%), Turkey (-9.2%), Oman (-9.6%) and Saudi Arabia (-14.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Israel, Iran, Morocco, Kuwait and Jordan increased by +4.1, +2.8, +2.4, +2.3 and +2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported pre-shave, shaving and after-shave preparations (excluding soap in blocks) in MENA, comprising 32% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Israel ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates amounted to -5.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Israel (-2.4% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-10.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+5.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
