For the third consecutive year, MENA recorded growth in shipments abroad of prepared skins of birds, which increased by 62% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports posted noticeable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 114%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, prepared birds skin exports declined notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a noticeable setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 100% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Turkey was the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 70% of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) took a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Iran (7.9%) and Lebanon (4.6%). Israel (X kg) took a little share of total exports.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the prepared skins of birds exports, with a CAGR of +59.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+11.9%), Lebanon (+11.4%), Israel (+8.9%) and Iran (+5.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Turkey (+69 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+6.3 p.p.) and Lebanon (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest prepared birds skin supplying countries in MENA were Turkey ($X), Iran ($X) and Israel ($X), with a combined 72% share of total exports.

Turkey, with a CAGR of +31.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -52.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 92%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (+9.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the amount of prepared skins of birds imported in MENA surged to X tons, picking up by 35% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, imports enjoyed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 103% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, prepared birds skin imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports enjoyed a remarkable increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Turkey (X tons) was the main importer of prepared skins of birds, mixing up 56% of total imports. Israel (X tons) held a 21% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Morocco (11%) and Lebanon (4.7%). The following importers - the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) - each finished at a 4.5% share of total imports.

Imports into Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +25.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Israel (+49.8%), Morocco (+42.1%), Kuwait (+25.9%) and Lebanon (+7.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Israel emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +49.8% from 2012-2022. The United Arab Emirates experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkey, Israel and Morocco increased by +21, +19 and +8.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), Israel ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 85% of total imports. Lebanon, Morocco and Kuwait lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 12%.

Morocco, with a CAGR of +37.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 35% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a noticeable setback. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Morocco ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lebanon (+6.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
