Exports in MENA
In 2021, exports of preservative-treated rough wood in MENA skyrocketed to X cubic meters, picking up by 45% against 2020. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 141% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, preservative-treated rough wood exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 91%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Turkey prevails in exports structure, resulting at X cubic meters, which was near 93% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X cubic meters), achieving a 5.1% share of total exports.
Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the preservative-treated rough wood exports, with a CAGR of +25.3% from 2012 to 2021. The United Arab Emirates (-2.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey increased by +36 percentage points.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest preservative-treated rough wood supplier in MENA, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 14% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey stood at +6.4%.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MENA stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, growing by 8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 9.2%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per cubic meter), while Turkey amounted to $X per cubic meter.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (-1.9%).
Preservative-Treated Rough Wood Imports
Imports in MENA
In 2021, overseas purchases of preservative-treated rough wood were finally on the rise to reach X cubic meters after three years of decline. In general, imports, however, showed a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 75%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X cubic meters in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, preservative-treated rough wood imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 69%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the three major importers of preservative-treated rough wood, namely Turkey, Oman and Yemen, represented more than half of total import. Jordan (X cubic meters) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 6.4% share, followed by Kuwait (5.3%), Algeria (4.9%) and Tunisia (4.5%).
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Jordan (with a CAGR of +20.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest preservative-treated rough wood importing markets in MENA were Turkey ($X), Oman ($X) and Yemen ($X), together comprising 75% of total imports. These countries were followed by Algeria, Jordan, Kuwait and Tunisia, which together accounted for a further 15%.
Jordan, with a CAGR of +16.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, growing by 12% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild shrinkage. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per cubic meter), while Jordan ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
