The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +102.3% against 2012 indices. In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X), Israel ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 64% of total imports. These countries were followed by Turkey, Kuwait, Qatar, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Jordan, Iran, Bahrain and Libya, which together accounted for a further 31%.

Qatar, with a CAGR of +24.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, flattening at the previous year. Import price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, pyrethrum and peppermint import price increased by +82.1% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
