In 2022, after ten years of growth, there was significant decline in the MENA's raspberry and blackberry market, when its value decreased by -44.9% to $X. Morocco (X tons) remains the largest raspberry and blackberry producing country in MENA, comprising approx. 95% of total volume. Moreover, raspberry and blackberry production in Morocco exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Saudi Arabia (X tons), more than tenfold.

In Morocco, raspberry and blackberry production increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2012-2022.

In 2022, approx. X tons of raspberries and blackberries were exported in MENA; with an increase of 36% on the previous year. Over the period under review, exports recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 69%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, raspberry and blackberry exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 86% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the one major exporters of raspberries and blackberries, namely Morocco, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

Morocco was also the fastest-growing in terms of the raspberries and blackberries exports, with a CAGR of +36.9% from 2012 to 2022. While the share of Morocco (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Morocco ($X) also remains the largest raspberry and blackberry supplier in MENA.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, declining by -17.1% against the previous year. Export price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Morocco.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Morocco amounted to +3.8% per year.

Imports in MENA

In 2022, after ten years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of raspberries and blackberries, when their volume decreased by -42.7% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, posted buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 101%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, raspberry and blackberry imports contracted remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 143% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then reduced notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), distantly followed by Kuwait (X tons), Qatar (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) represented the key importers of raspberries and blackberries, together comprising 90% of total imports. The following importers - Iraq (X tons) and Jordan (X tons) - together made up 5.7% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Qatar (with a CAGR of +82.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Qatar ($X) and Kuwait ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 85% of total imports.

Qatar, with a CAGR of +86.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -11.5% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.7%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while Iraq ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+7.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
