The volume of export peaked at X cubic meters in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, coniferous roundwood exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a pronounced increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 87% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X cubic meters) was the main exporter of roundwood (coniferous), generating 69% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Jordan (X cubic meters), generating a 21% share of total exports. Morocco (X cubic meters) and Egypt (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Jordan (+62.1%) and Morocco (+9.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Jordan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +62.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Egypt (-13.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United Arab Emirates (+26 p.p.), Jordan (+21 p.p.) and Morocco (+2.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Egypt saw its share reduced by -11.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest coniferous roundwood supplier in MENA, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Jordan ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 5.7% share.
In the United Arab Emirates, coniferous roundwood exports expanded at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Jordan (+32.9% per year) and Egypt (+8.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MENA stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, rising by 3% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 27%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per cubic meter. From 2018 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per cubic meter), while Jordan ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+25.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MENA
In 2022, purchases abroad of roundwood (coniferous) increased by 70% to X cubic meters, rising for the second consecutive year after five years of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt curtailment. The volume of import peaked at X cubic meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, coniferous roundwood imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a deep contraction. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Egypt (X cubic meters) and the United Arab Emirates (X cubic meters) represented the largest importers of roundwood (coniferous) in MENA, together achieving 63% of total imports. Algeria (X cubic meters) took an 18% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Morocco (7.6%) and Israel (5.5%). Oman (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Algeria (with a CAGR of +57.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Egypt ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported roundwood (coniferous) in MENA, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Morocco, with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Egypt stood at -7.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (+3.2% per year) and Morocco (-5.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, increasing by 54% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 67%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per cubic meter), while Algeria ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
