In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 101% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2020, and then fell markedly in the following year.
In value terms, sailboat exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 114% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Tunisia (X units) represented the key exporter of sailboats for pleasure or sports, with or without auxiliary motor, making up 48% of total exports. Turkey (X units) took a 23% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Oman (13%) and the United Arab Emirates (4.8%). The following exporters - Lebanon (X units), Israel (X units) and Egypt (X units) - together made up 8.6% of total exports.
Tunisia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sailboats for pleasure or sports, with or without auxiliary motor exports, with a CAGR of +45.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Lebanon (+24.1%), Turkey (+18.5%), Oman (+17.6%), Israel (+14.9%) and the United Arab Emirates (+9.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Egypt (-16.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Tunisia (+44 p.p.), Turkey (+11 p.p.), Oman (+5.8 p.p.) and Lebanon (+2.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Egypt saw its share reduced by -24.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Tunisia ($X) remains the largest sailboat supplier in MENA, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 6.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Tunisia amounted to +41.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (+11.1% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+9.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, growing by 200% against the previous year. In general, the export price posted a prominent increase. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while Egypt ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lebanon (+20.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MENA
Sailboat imports skyrocketed to X units in 2021, increasing by 79% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 9,782%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sailboat imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 388% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Qatar dominates imports structure, accounting for X units, which was near 89% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X units), achieving a 5.8% share of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Qatar decreased at an average annual rate of -10.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Turkey (+28.5%) and the United Arab Emirates (+10.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +28.5% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey increased by +5.6 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sailboats for pleasure or sports, with or without auxiliary motor in MENA, comprising 77% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 14% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey amounted to +48.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (+16.6% per year) and Qatar (-12.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2021, reducing by -21.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 5,052%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
