Turkey (X tons), Oman (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) represented roughly 88% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Tunisia (X tons), comprising a 5.1% share of total exports. Kuwait (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Kuwait (with a CAGR of +19.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Oman ($X), Turkey ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 63% of total exports. Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Kuwait lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.
Tunisia, with a CAGR of +20.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, growing by 5.6% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 17%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+4.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MENA
Sauce and seasoning imports stood at X tons in 2021, increasing by 15% on the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +34.1% against 2018 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, sauce and seasoning imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +92.8% against 2012 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Saudi Arabia (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the main importers of sauces and seasonings in 2021, amounting to near 22% and 20% of total imports, respectively. Kuwait (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 8.9% share, followed by Israel (7.2%), Iraq (6.9%), Morocco (5.1%) and Turkey (4.8%). The following importers - Qatar (X tons), Yemen (X tons), Jordan (X tons), Oman (X tons), Bahrain (X tons) and Libya (X tons) - together made up 20% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Morocco (with a CAGR of +28.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Kuwait ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 53% share of total imports. Israel, Turkey, Morocco, Qatar, Iraq, Oman, Jordan, Bahrain, Yemen and Libya lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 42%.
Morocco, with a CAGR of +26.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 5.2% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 5.4%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
