In value terms, the largest sawnwood (non-coniferous) supplying countries in MENA were Saudi Arabia ($X), Turkey ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), together accounting for 88% of total exports.

For the fifth year in a row, MENA recorded decline in overseas purchases of sawnwood (non-coniferous), which decreased by -27.6% to X cubic meters in 2022. Overall, imports showed a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X cubic meters. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sawnwood (non-coniferous) imports declined markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, Egypt ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Israel ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 52% of total imports. Turkey, Algeria, Morocco, Yemen, Iran, Lebanon, Qatar, Tunisia and Bahrain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.
Among the main importing countries, Iran, with a CAGR of +14.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per cubic meter, with a decrease of -21.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 30%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per cubic meter in 2021, and then contracted notably in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per cubic meter), while Bahrain ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+11.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
