After three years of decline, the MENA's skis market increased by 2.8% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption, however, showed a pronounced curtailment. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, skis production expanded to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 15% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in MENA
Skis exports soared to X tons in 2021, increasing by 18% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, exports showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 53%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, skis exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 76%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates was the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at 68% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Tunisia (X tons), generating a 30% share of total exports.
The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the skis for winter sports exports, with a CAGR of +52.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Tunisia (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. The United Arab Emirates (+63 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Tunisia saw its share reduced by -61.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest skis supplier in MENA, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tunisia ($X), with a 31% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in the United Arab Emirates stood at +70.9%.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 5.8% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 17%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+12.2%).
Skis Imports
Imports in MENA
In 2021, approx. X tons of skis for winter sports were imported in MENA; rising by 55% against the year before. Overall, imports, however, saw a noticeable decrease. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country
Turkey was the key importer of skis for winter sports in MENA, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 67% of total imports in 2021. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) took a 10% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Iran (8.9%). Kuwait (X tons), Israel (X tons) and Qatar (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to skis imports into Turkey stood at -1.0%. At the same time, Kuwait (+9.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kuwait emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +9.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Israel (-1.5%), Qatar (-5.8%), the United Arab Emirates (-7.7%) and Iran (-9.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+19 p.p.) and Kuwait (+2.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-3.4 p.p.) and Iran (-5.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported skis for winter sports in MENA, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Iran, with a 12% share.
In Turkey, skis imports shrank by an average annual rate of -1.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (-2.5% per year) and Iran (-7.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -17% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 18%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Kuwait ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+5.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
