Sleeping Bag Market Size in MENA
In 2021, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in the MENA's sleeping bag market, when its value decreased by -15.1% to $X. In general, consumption showed a mild downturn. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted notably in the following year.
Sleeping Bag Production in MENA
In value terms, sleeping bag production surged to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -10.0% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 39%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2021, production growth remained at a lower figure.
Sleeping Bag Exports
Exports in MENA
In 2021, overseas shipments of sleeping bags decreased by -30.9% to X units, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 62% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sleeping bag exports dropped to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 57% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020, and then fell in the following year.
Exports by Country
Turkey was the main exporting country with an export of about X units, which amounted to 72% of total exports. Tunisia (X units) held a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Egypt (5.3%). The United Arab Emirates (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sleeping bags exports, with a CAGR of +14.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Tunisia (+7.7%) and the United Arab Emirates (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Egypt experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Turkey (+21 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt saw its share reduced by -4.1%, -4.5% and -6.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, the largest sleeping bag supplying countries in MENA were Turkey ($X), Tunisia ($X) and Egypt ($X), together comprising 93% of total exports.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Tunisia, with a CAGR of +25.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Export price indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, sleeping bag export price increased by +51.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 34%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per unit), while Turkey ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (+16.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Sleeping Bag Imports
Imports in MENA
In 2021, supplies from abroad of sleeping bags decreased by -6.1% to X units, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sleeping bag imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of sleeping bag imports in 2021 were Syrian Arab Republic (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units), Israel (X units), Libya (X units) and Turkey (X units), together resulting at 80% of total import. Qatar (X units), Kuwait (X units), Algeria (X units), Iraq (X units), Iran (X units) and Oman (X units) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Syrian Arab Republic (with a CAGR of +49.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest sleeping bag importing markets in MENA were Israel ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Syrian Arab Republic ($X), together accounting for 38% of total imports.
Syrian Arab Republic, with a CAGR of +52.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 28% against the previous year. Import price indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, sleeping bag import price increased by +56.7% against 2018 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per unit), while Syrian Arab Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kuwait (+8.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
