Soya Sauce Market Size in MENA
The MENA's soya sauce market rose notably to $X in 2022, growing by 15% against the previous year. Exports in MENA
In 2022, the amount of soya sauce exported in MENA surged to X tons, jumping by 46% compared with the previous year. In general, exports saw a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 69% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, soya sauce exports fell notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 72% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), comprising an 8.8% share of total exports. Israel (X tons), Palestine (X tons), Kuwait (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Lebanon (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Israel (+42.8%), Turkey (+26.3%), Kuwait (+14.7%), Palestine (+14.5%), Lebanon (+9.8%) and Oman (+7.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Israel emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +42.8% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkey, Israel, Palestine and Kuwait increased by +7.1, +3.8, +1.6 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest soya sauce supplier in MENA, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Israel, with an 8% share.
In the United Arab Emirates, soya sauce exports increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkey (+22.3% per year) and Israel (+44.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -45.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 58%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lebanon ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+0.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Soya Sauce Imports
Imports in MENA
In 2022, approx. X tons of soya sauce were imported in MENA; which is down by -27.2% on the previous year. Total imports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
In value terms, soya sauce imports fell sharply to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 31%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the three major importers of soya sauce, namely the United Arab Emirates, Israel and Turkey, represented more than half of total import. It was distantly followed by Morocco (X tons), Qatar (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons), together constituting a 20% share of total imports. Lebanon (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Morocco (with a CAGR of +18.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Israel ($X) and Turkey ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 62% of total imports. Qatar, Morocco, Kuwait, Bahrain and Lebanon lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.
Among the main importing countries, Morocco, with a CAGR of +19.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, approximately reflecting the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 9.3%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
