Sparkling Wine Market Size in MENA

The MENA's sparkling wine market reduced modestly to $X in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Overall, consumption recorded a pronounced descent. Sparkling wine exports dropped sharply to X litres in 2022, with a decrease of -43.2% against 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 47% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, sparkling wine exports shrank markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw tangible growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 60%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates (X litres), Turkey (X litres) and Tunisia (X litres) represented roughly 80% of total exports in 2022. Lebanon (X litres) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Bahrain (X litres). All these countries together took approx. 10% share of total exports. The following exporters - Palestine (X litres) and Israel (X litres) - each resulted at a 6.2% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bahrain (with a CAGR of +88.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) emerged as the largest sparkling wine supplier in MENA, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 26% share of total exports. It was followed by Tunisia, with a 12% share.

In Turkey, sparkling wine exports expanded at an average annual rate of +37.9% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-4.4% per year) and Tunisia (+6.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per litre in 2022, with an increase of 49% against the previous year. Export price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per litre), while Bahrain ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+19.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the amount of sparkling wine imported in MENA reduced to X litres, with a decrease of -8.8% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports showed a mild descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 86%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X litres. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, sparkling wine imports declined to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +46.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 59%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates represented the largest importing country with an import of about X litres, which resulted at 70% of total imports. Israel (X litres) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 14% share, followed by Turkey (7.1%). The following importers - Morocco (X litres) and Oman (X litres) - each accounted for a 4.1% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to sparkling wine imports into the United Arab Emirates stood at +4.7%. At the same time, Turkey (+21.0%), Morocco (+3.6%), Israel (+2.7%) and Oman (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +21.0% from 2012-2022. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+32 p.p.), Turkey (+6.2 p.p.) and Israel (+4.7 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sparkling wine in MENA, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Israel, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in the United Arab Emirates amounted to +4.4%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+18.1% per year) and Israel (+8.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per litre in 2022, approximately reflecting the previous year. Import price indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sparkling wine import price increased by +33.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 30%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
