Total exports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +60.5% against 2018 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, stranded wire exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports posted a resilient increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Turkey prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 77% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Bahrain (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons), together mixing up a 15% share of total exports. The following exporters - the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) - together made up 6% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to stranded wire exports from Turkey stood at +10.3%. At the same time, Tunisia (+21.0%) and the United Arab Emirates (+5.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tunisia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +21.0% from 2012-2021. Saudi Arabia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Bahrain (-11.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+30 p.p.) and Tunisia (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Saudi Arabia (-3.5 p.p.) and Bahrain (-27.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest stranded wire supplier in MENA, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bahrain ($X), with a 6.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 4.7% share.
In Turkey, stranded wire exports increased at an average annual rate of +9.5% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bahrain (-10.3% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+8.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 33% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Tunisia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+9.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the amount of stranded wire, ropes and cables imported in MENA shrank to X tons, dropping by -5.9% on 2020. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, stranded wire imports reached $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a mild curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), distantly followed by Iraq (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Israel (X tons) and Qatar (X tons) were the largest importers of stranded wire, ropes and cables, together generating 69% of total imports. The following importers - Egypt (X tons), Kuwait (X tons), Oman (X tons), Iran (X tons), Yemen (X tons) and Algeria (X tons) - together made up 23% of total imports.
Imports into the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Yemen (+16.7%), Morocco (+3.3%), Iraq (+1.1%) and Israel (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Yemen emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +16.7% from 2012-2021. Turkey and Qatar experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Oman (-2.2%), Egypt (-2.7%), Algeria (-4.2%), Kuwait (-6.4%), Iran (-8.6%) and Saudi Arabia (-11.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+6.3 p.p.), Morocco (+3 p.p.), Iraq (+2.9 p.p.), Yemen (+2.8 p.p.), Turkey (+2 p.p.) and Israel (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Kuwait (-1.9 p.p.), Iran (-2.9 p.p.) and Saudi Arabia (-10.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Iraq ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 42% of total imports. Israel, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Morocco, Egypt, Oman, Kuwait, Algeria, Iran and Qatar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 51%.
Among the main importing countries, Yemen, with a CAGR of +27.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 19% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Yemen ($X per ton), while Qatar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
