Frozen Sweet Corn Market Size in MENA

The MENA's frozen sweet corn market surged to $X in 2021, jumping by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2021, the amount of frozen sweet corn exported in MENA soared to X tons, rising by 55% on 2020. In general, exports enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 131%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, frozen sweet corn exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 117%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Turkey represented the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which reached 72% of total exports. Morocco (X tons) held an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the United Arab Emirates (5.2%). Iran (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the frozen sweet corn exports, with a CAGR of +48.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Iran (+33.1%), Morocco (+28.1%), Egypt (+14.8%) and the United Arab Emirates (+14.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-12.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+59 p.p.), Morocco (+3.1 p.p.) and Iran (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia saw its share reduced by -3.1%, -5.3% and -37.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest frozen sweet corn supplier in MENA, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Morocco ($X), with a 9% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with an 8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey totaled +39.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Morocco (+26.6% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+16.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately mirroring the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a mild curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 11% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+15.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Frozen sweet corn imports surged to X tons in 2021, growing by 17% against the year before. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Qatar (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
